The flying programme has continued unabated during the first quarter of the new year and has included work-ups for QRA coverage during the Olympics.

At the beginning of March, elements of the Sqn deployed for a long weekend to St Dizier Air Base in France for an official twinning visit.  The Sqn was extremely well hosted by the French Air Force, with a full programme of social events laid on for the visit.

Two major exercises are on the horizon and are requiring substantial preparation.  At the end of March, 3(F) Sqn will host Ex CARBON COPY in UK airspace, to include participation by 6 Sqn and the F-15s from RAF Lakenheath.  Then, in April, the Sqn will deploy to Leeuwarden Air Base in the Netherlands to participate in Ex FRISIAN FLAG, hosted by the RNLAF.  Shortly after returning, 3(F) Sqn will celebrate its 100th Anniversary on the weekend of 13th May, being the oldest RAF squadron, with the presentation of a new Sqn Colour and a weekend of historical and social activities.  These events, combined with involvement in the Olympics, should ensure that 2012 will be a year with memories as vivid and important as those of 2011.
