Coningsby Caterers Race For Life

Seventeen female Caterers from RAF Coningsby, dressed in pink aprons, took part in the Race for Life at the Lincolnshire Showground on Sunday 10 July 2011

Race for Life is Cancer Research UK’s flagship event, with over 300 events taking place across the UK.  It’s about women coming together to help beat cancer by walking, jogging or running 5k.

Several of the ladies lives have been touched by cancer, including their colleague Carol, who was diagnosed with breast cancer in October 2010; thankfully she received the all clear just before participating in the Race for Life. A total of £878.00 was raised by the ladies, whose age range is between 23 and 57.  First lady home completed the course in 29.5 mins; all ladies finished in under 58mins.

Sergeant Dawn Bailey, who rallied the group of RAF and Civilian Caterers (ISS Facility Services Defence), said:  “Some of the ladies found the idea of the Race for Life quite daunting at first, but they all entered into the spirit on the day; it was a real bonus when everyone said they would like to take part again next year.”:
