GOOD DAY FOR RAF CONINGSBY AT THE 2019 RAF POLICE MILITARY WORKING DOG TRIALS

RAF Honington, the home of RAF Force Protection, provided the prestigious backdrop for the 2019 RAFP MWD Trials. With an audience that included AOC 2 Gp Air Vice Marshall David Cooper, the pressure was certainly on for the competitors.
The trials are the culmination of months of technical evaluation carried out across the UK and Cyprus by the Provost Marshal’s Dog Inspectors (PMDI), with only 8 dogs and their handlers making the grade to compete at these national finals. Three days’ worth of heats saw the dogs and their handlers put through their paces in three different disciplines – wind scent exercises, obedience and obstacles plus criminal workouts. The outcome of these heats whittled the 8 competitors down to four for the final day on the 12 Sep 19.
Following the months of preparation and the pressure of the finals, it was Cpl Christopher McLean and MWD Saiid who took the coveted top spot as champions, with Cpl Pete Mason & Demon from RAF Coningsby taking second place.
Corporal Mason said: “I am over the moon and very proud of Demon”
The RAF Police took the opportunity to present a host of other military working dog related trophies at the awards ceremony. The recipients of these awards were identified by the Provost Marshal Dog Inspectors through stringent assessment over the past year, with further success for RAF Coningsby
The Prestige Trophy for best RAF Police MWD Section for 2019 as judged by the Provost Marshal’s Dog Inspectorate is awarded to RAF Coningsby
PMDI WO Jon Tanner said: ‘Aspects taken in to account are the performance in the annual Technical Evaluation inspection and combined performance of all MWD Teams throughout the testing process. This year RAF Coningby’s handlers occupied two places in RAF Police MWD Trials 2019.” Collecting the award on behalf of the section is Cpl Cooper with MWD Flex.
