RAF Coningsby Station Bonfire

Fireworks lit up the evening sky at RAF Coningsby on Thursday 3 November 2011, when Station Personnel, their families and local residents were treated to a traditional Bonfire Night event.

Under supervision of the Acting Station Commander, Wing Commander Paul Godfrey, the Bonfire and Firework display were started by Josh Brewster (11) and Gareth Bates (18).  The boys were invited to perform the duty as they have both recently won Coningsby and Tattershall Town Council Youth Achievement Awards: Josh won the Junior Achievement Award and Gareth won the Senior Achievement Award.

Catering staff were on hand to serve soup, burgers, hot-dogs and drinks.

Coningsby and Horncastle Air Cadets assisted by controlling the crowd line and collecting cash donations, which, in addition to profits from the sale of sparklers and glow sticks, totalled £1,200; this amount will go towards the cost of putting on an event next year.

OIC of the event, Fg Off Fiona Taylor said:  “On behalf of the organisers, I would like to thank all who attended and all the Station personnel who supported the event. Special thanks must be given to Sergeant ‘Bomber’ Tate and his team for the firework display itself and to the generous sponsorship given by Turners Facilities Management and Selex Galileo: without their input this year’s Fireworks display would not have been possible!”
