Typhoon Display Team Raises £12,000 For Charity

An impressive total of £12,000 has been presented to charity by the Typhoon Display Team based at RAF Coningsby. Donations were made by members of the public and collected by the Typhoon Display Team during their visits to 26 Airshows during the 2010 season.

At each of the Airshows the team manned a Public Relations information trailer which was open to visitors, where they could get the chance to meet the Typhoon Display Pilot, Flight Lieutenant (Flt Lt) Tim Clement.

On Wednesday 2 March 2011, representatives from the following three charities were presented with a cheque for £4,000 each: the Royal Air Force Association (RAFA); Royal Air Force Benevolent Fund (RAFBF) and the National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children (NSPCC).

On presenting the cheques to the charities, Wing Commander Al Seymour, Officer Commanding 29(Reserve) Squadron said:  “On behalf of the Station Commander, I am pleased to present £12,000 to the NSPCC, RAFA and the RAFBF.  I am delighted that the 2010 Typhoon Display Team from 29(R) Squadron was able to raise this money and look forward to seeing it support and help those who need
it most.”

Flt Lt Clement said:  “The Display Team, and in particular, our Public Relations volunteers worked very hard throughout last year to raise this fantastic sum of money.  We are all very proud to support the NSPCC, RAFA and the RAFBF and hope this money can be
used to further their
outstanding work.”

Mr Geoff Ware (Regional Director of East Midlands and East England RAFBF) said:  “I am delighted to be here to receive a cheque for £4,000 which will be a huge contribution to our delivering welfare needs to serving and former serving RAF.”

Sara van der Meer (Fundraising Manager, East Midlands NSPCC) said:  “It’s fantastic to be here today to receive such a generous donation from such busy people as the Typhoon Display Team; they have been fundraising over some time and have achieved a fabulous total which will go a long way to helping children in Lincolnshire, through NSPCC services.  She added:  “We thank them all for their efforts.”

Rachel Huxford (Director of Fundraising RAFA) said: “Any sum of money, no matter how large or small can make a big difference to the people that we support.  The donation from the Typhoon Display Team will help us to continue providing welfare help and care to members of the RAF family who are in need, and we are extremely grateful to them for supporting the work that we do.”
