VIP Visitors to RAF Coningsby

RAF Coningsby hosted a number of VIP visitors in February including Lord Astor of Hever, Under Secretary of State for Defence, and Mr Stephen Barrett, Royal Air Force Non Executive Director and member of the Air Force Board Standing Committee.

Lord Astor is the Lords spokesman on Defence policy, operations, personnel, equipment and legacy issues and was here partly to improve his appreciation of Typhoon operational capabilities, support arrangements and how Coningsby personnel overcome the challenges and contribute to the wider UK economy through support to the export programme.

Mr Barrett was here to become familiar with key issues and challenges facing the Station and better understand individual and collective aspirations and concerns of personnel on the Unit.  In conjunction with visits to other front line stations this will help him contribute in his role as advisor within the RAF senior leadership team.  During his visit he commented that the discussion sessions with mixed rank groups were particularly helpful, he was impressed by the ‘can do’ spirit of personnel and that he, “took away some useful homework from the candid, constructive and welcome observations that everyone made”.

Both visits were productive and achieved their aims.
