Like cycling or fancy having a go at something different?

2013 brings something new to the Station calendar – The Coningsby Sportive will take place on Saturday 08 June 2013.

What’s a Sportive?

A cyclosportive or a sportive is a non-competitive, non mass-start event that combines elements of road riding and long distance bicycle touring. Many sportive events attract a wide range of riders, from dedicated racing cyclists to leisure cyclists looking to test themselves. For example, l’Etape du Tour is held annually in France and allows amateur cyclists to race over the same mountain roads used by professional riders in the Tour de France. Riders carry a number and timing chip and the time they take to complete the course is recorded.

Open to civilians as well as those serving this event is intended to be a challenging but fun event that is accessible to riders of all abilities. We’ve kept the distance manageable on enjoyable, safe, open country roads which will take riders through quiet, beautiful Lincolnshire villages and hamlets, passing many historic Royal Air Force linked sites along the way. The routes have no major climbs (it is Lincolnshire after all). The route would be described as ‘rolling’ with several short, sharp climbs and will offer a test of any riders legs.

Entries will cost £25 and you can expect the following for your entry fee:

• 3 routes of 160, 80 and 30km

• All clearly way-marked, safe, quiet and picturesque route.

• 3 Feed stations (long route). Food and drinks will be provided.

• Individual Times for all riders.

We’re looking for volunteers to help in the organisation leading up to and on the day as well as riders – if you want to get involved or know more please contact either:
